Galco Kingtuk IWB Holster - RH, Black, 1911 Commander & 1911 Gov. KT212B

Galco KT212B King Tuck IWB Holster Review

The King Tuk holster is one of the most comfortable on the market, but that does not make it "King." The slight forward cant helps to keep the majority of the grip, which is the hardest to conceal, forward rather than straight up and down like a lot of holsters.

The holster will hold any length of 1911-based pistols from 3" to 5" barrels. The Para Ordinance P14.45 fits perfectly in this holster, even with its wide grip. The "Combat" cut protects the pistol from sweat while protecting the user from the hard edges of the pistol and affording the operator a good purchase on the pistol while removing the firearm from the holster.

The holster is designed to work with tension; tension being the pressure that the body places against the backing of the holster and which helps keep the firearm in the holster. The more the tension, the tighter the fit of the holster to the firearm. This also means that the operator should consider a well-made belt for added tension by pulling the holster into the body.

The twin, screw-mounted clips hold the holster firmly on the belt. I prefer; however a single screw in the clip to allow the clip to rotate slightly on the holster as the body moves while maintaining a positive hold on the belt. I also prefer a rough-out backing to help keep the holster in place.

The Kydex portion of the holster is thick, well formed, and well secured to the backing. There are no sharp edges and it adequately protects the trigger so I have no problem carrying "Condition 1" with this holster. You will find; however, that if your pistol has an extended safety, the safety will eventually cut into the top layer of leather. This might cause some premature wear over time. However, it is also a plus as the holster develops an "indent" for the safety and may prevent it from coming "off-safe" without the operator's knowledge. I would prefer a single, thick piece of backing to the double-layer of the King Tuk but I still find the King Tuk more than adequate for its purpose of housing a pistol until I need it. The top layer is glued and stitched to the rear backing and the stitching appears well done.

At first, while stiff, the holster eventually molds itself to the wearer's body contours and becomes more comfortable over time. The wearer can adjust the holster up or down easily. Out of the four King Tuk holsters that I own, I have not had to change the adjustment from the factory setting, as the top edge of the holster is just above the belt line and the forward cant is a plus. For an IWB holster, the lower the better; especially for birds who have a 6-foot wingspan like I have. The width of the holster is also a plus for comfort as well as stabilizing the holster.

All in all, the King Tuk is a good IWB holster at a reasonable cost. While it may not be a "King" of IWB holsters, it certainty is at least a "Prince" among them.
