Weighted Hula and Arm Hoop Combination Review

I'm going to be in a wedding on March 19, 2011, so I wanted to add a fun, no-impact cardio workout that I could do at home to music in my kitchen.

After lengthy research and reading many reviews here on Amazon, I bought my set directly from Canyon's site b/c they had a red and pink version that was not carried by Amazon AND their site has the option to add the Betty Hoops DVD for an even bigger discount.

I like the fact that Canyon is a socially conscious family business that uses very high quality materials and has a lifetime guarantee! Plus their emails to me concerning my purchase were thoughtful and supportive.

I chose the Betty Hoops DVD b/c of the research I did on the web -- she has a strong background in movement education, anatomy and ergonomics. I'll post a separate review of it after I have time to really assess it.

Thus far, after playing with them several time, I find:

1) The arm hoops are very comfy and adorably cute! Just 2 minutes of spinning them really woke my upper body up! I'm looking forward to the day when I can also do some poi stuff with them (like, September?).

2) I literally just put the big hoop together and it fits perfectly in my kitchen -- I did the "measure the diameter of the hoop on a broomstick, go to the room that you intend to hoop in, spin around to see if the broom knocks anything over.

3) I succeeded in hooping the big hoop counterclockwise on my waist for about a minute and boy, oh, it's definitely good cardio! Note: don't wear socks while hooping on linoleum, as it seems like said footwear will get holes quickly.

I ordered the 38" version as I'm 5' 3".

Maybe in the summer I'll learn to make hoops, as it seems very very addictive and I'd like my friends to join me in the fun!
