These shorts are a FANTASTIC BUY. I will definitely look to Prana for my next pair of climbing shorts.

DURABILITY:

I purchased these shorts specifically for outdoor rock-climbing. I was a little leery of how thin they were, but Prana is known for manufacturing tough clothing intended for climbing, and the labels reassured me that the synthetic weave was strong enough to withstand tough abrasion, so I decided to let them perform before judging them...

...and WOW have they performed. So far I've worn them on three separate trips to the mountains. I've spent at least a dozen hours climbing, scraping, and wedging with them on granite and sandstone rock, I've worn them hiking for hours, I've sat with them on stone, gravel, and concrete, and I've worn a full climbing rack over them (with cams, carabiners, tools, chalk, etc) for hours. They've also been through 4 wash cycles so far.

The result of all of this abuse so far: minimal wear! There are absolutely no tears or holes, the fabric still feels relatively new, there are very few loose threads, and there is minimal pilling from abrasion.

FIT/FEEL:

Again, I purchased these shorts for outdoor rock-climbing, knowing that I wanted an item that was light-weight and unrestrictive. I could not be happier with the fit. The material is the right combination of light and stretchy such that it almost feels like you are wearing nothing at all. Even when wearing a climbing harness on top of the shorts, they feel almost like they aren't there. What's more, the nylon, although extremely rugged, feels soft and light against the skin. Even during the strangest contortions, the highest high-steps, and the deepest squats, these shorts do not pull, constrict, or otherwise remind me that I am wearing clothing. I don't know how they do it, but thank you modern science for producing magical fabrics like this. The only time that I notice them is when I have to scrape my lower body (covered from waist to just below my knees by the shorts) against a wall, and my skin is perfectly protected from any abrasion.

LOOK:

The shorts look good. After a day of cragging, hiking, and camping, I don't feel at all weird about going into town and sitting down at a restaurant with these shorts on. Even the residue of chalk is somewhat subdued because of the coloring.
