Admittedly I'm a fan of Cold Steel Knives. My favorite knife of theirs was the VG-1 Voyagers for its combination of strength, sharpness, and relatively slim pocket profile. Fast forward to the AUS-8 Tri-AD lock era and things have changed a lot. Most of their folders now are overbuilt for strength and end up being too big for my taste. I like a blade 4" or a little shorter. The new line of Aus-8 Voyagers are just take up too much room in my pocket. I tried the Spyderco Endura and it has the perfect profile but I've been spoiled on the peace of mind that the Tri-Ad lock gives. The Endura became the really sleek sportscar you don't want to take out as your daily driver. When I saw the Code-4 line in the 2013 releases I had high hopes as this looked like a very thin, very strong, decent length folder with aluminum scales and the tri-ad lock. As soon as they went for sale I picked up the Spear Point Plain Edge. Wow, this knife blew me away. I'm writing this review about three weeks after getting this knife. Like most tri-ad locks the action was pretty tight at first. Opening and especially closing needed some breaking in. Now the action is butter smooth. A quick thumb push on the stud or a solid wrist flick will snap the blade open with a satisfyingly solid click. The AUS-8 Spear Point was hair popping sharp out of the box as are most Cold Steel Knives and the blade profile is very clean while not looking mall-ninjaish. The largest selling point for this knife is just how thin the handle profile is. Grab the nearest disposable lighter and look at how thin the profile is. The handle is thinner than that. It's thinner than a disposable ball point. Put four quarters top to bottom and that's roughly as thick as the handle minus the pocket clip. But despite the thin profile you never get the feeling that this is a fragile knife. The aluminum scales combined with the tri-ad lock make this thing feel like a solid piece of metal in your hand. I am thinking I may have to pick up the Tanto point also just to have variety. This has fast become one of my favorite Cold Steel designs and I hope that it is in their line up for a long long time. I would love to see this with a VG-1 or even a high end San-Mai III blade. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Cold Stl Code-4 3.5" Spear Point" are high quality item.
