I have 2 GT UL's and love them for the small package (a pair of socks is as big as the GT UL in it's sack) but for just SLIGHTLY a bigger package you get a HUGE amount of "more" with this set up. I bought one last year and loved it. It's just night and day bigger and more comfy over the UL, and this one can go into a softall sized ball with just a few rubber bands if you want to make it as small as possible. My son has 'fallen in' with a great group of guys who are backpackers, mountain bikers, and hammockers. They carry their hammocks every trip (as I do on my trips) to give them a place to nap, sit, or stretch out and take in the views on their outings. Of course they sleep out as much as they can...and hey, I'm lucky I figure, if my 17 year old son wants to spend his nights doing stuff like this rather than other things that could get him in trouble with his school or baseball future!
Anyway...he was using his GT UL and since he is now about 6'2" - and all his friends are using Eno Singles or similar...he asked to borrow this one from me (it was the Crimson/Khaki single) Well...he texted me from the hammock the first time he put it up...and bascially told me I had "lost" it to him now! lol.
He's very happy it uses the same SIMPLE suspension system as the UL's. He quickly found out that others spend up to 10 minutes figiting with their set ups and these hang up in WELL under a minute. To me, the GT system is the way to go. I've never once has an S hook come out on me...and the purple-ish ropes that come knotted from GT are just plain awesome. I taught my son to add one 12' canoe lashing strap rolled up to his bag - and he can choose a huge amount of set ups between attachment points and the little strap takes up no room in a pack. He said all his friends are still fussing with their straps/suspension systems sometime for 20 minutes and he's back to the fire in no time flat. Actually, it's for this reason that I went "all Grand Trunk" myself...I sold off/traded several other well known brands myself years back.
anyway...I'm back here to get this one - the green will go better with my old army "blend into the woods" mentality...and matches my woodland camo tarp better...and my son is thrilled with the Crimson/Khacki one that is now "his".
