Game Reaper Marlin 1894,1895 and 336-Medium Mount (Silver) Review

I just got a Marlin 1894 in stainless and wanted to mount a stainless colored scope (with 40mm objective) on top. This one piece mount looks really sharp on top and holds the scope firmly and level, and the medium high rings fit the 40mm objective pretty easily. Another reviewer mentioned wrong size head screws for his firearm. I can't comment on how the mount would fit a Marlin 336 (what he has), but it fit great on my 1894 with one small, easily fixed exception (below)... but you HAVE to finish reading this review to see how awesome DNZ Products' (the manufacturer) customer service is!

When I first mounted the base and scope and tried to bore sight the rifle, something was off alignment and I couldn't figure out what. After thoroughly testing (using a level, different scopes, different bases) I actually found out that it is NOT the scope or base but rather the receiver of my brand new rifle!!! Marlin is sending me a label to ship it back for them to fix the problem. But I mention this because upon the initial scope mounting, the farthest forward head screw was about 1/32" too long to fully screw in, due to the edge of the barrel protruding into where the hole of the screw was.

I was not sure if it yet again was the rifle's fault or the screw being too long. But upon contacting DNZ Products to ask if anyone else had reported this problem, they said never heard of such a problem with this base, but that they'd be happy to custom machine a new slightly shorter screw and ship it to me all for free. They shipped the new screw less than two business days later, and it fits perfectly.

After further testing myself however, I am almost positive that the issue I had with the front screw was being caused by the same barrel-receiver alignment issue on the rifle itself and not a problem with the screw length. But either way, DNZ Products' willingness to machine and ship a custom screw to me in no time flat at no cost to me (without even being asked to) gets an A+++ in my book for customer service. I mean this is Amazon-style customer service here!

So my advice: if you have an 1894 (or 1895, 336) and want to mount a scope on top that is light weight, strong, looks great, and won't torque the scope, get this aluminum Game Reaper one piece base (either blued or stainless to match your rifle's finish), and I'm willing to bet you'll love it! Even in the off chance that you have the issue with the front screw like I did (which again in retrospect, I'm 90% sure is my particular rifle's problem), a quick phone call and a few days later, the issue is resolved and you have an awesome looking mount for a fraction of the cost of similar quality bases!
