I've been scuba diving for about 1 year now. As my first mask was adequate, even though it was a low end snorkeler's type mask, I was hesitant to spend extra money for a "good" mask. I did not think the difference in function would be very significant. I am very happy that I finally took the plunge. On my first trip using this Mares i3, I only had to "clear" the mask once or twice... because I could feel water, not even enough that it had any visible effects. The mask was so comfortable that I never even thought about it during the dive. I used the "burning" method to clear off the manufacturers coating from the inside of the mask and spit as my anit-fog coating. I did not have any fog at any time... whether on the surface waiting to go in or during the dive. The field of view was much better than my previous mask and the side windows gave me a lot of peripheral awareness. They are not so much for actually looking around, but if someone was trying to get my attention, I definitely noticed them much easier. Also while penetrating a tugboat wreck, the extra peripheral awareness was very comforting when going through opennings or entering spaces.
